YANAKANOTAISUKE

A View of Hachiman Castle Floating in the Night Sky

Passing through the popular sightseeing spot Yanakmizu no Komichi from Shinmachi Street, one comes to a quiet townhouse that is somewhat set apart from the bustle of town, yet conveniently located for living and sightseeing. From the bedroom on the second floor, you can see Gujo Hachiman Castle and know that you are indeed in a castle town. At night, the white tower that rises from the top of Shiroyama is lit up, and seems to float in the night sky.

Origin of Yanaka no Taisuke

Gujo Hachiman’s history as a castle town began in 1559 when a fort was built on today's Mt. Yawata. An ancient map of the Kanbun period shows the layout of the town at that time, and it is said that the residence of Daisuke Endo, the younger brother of the Gujo feudal lord, was located here. "Yanaka Inari Shrine” is also nearby, and the town people once referred to this area as “Yanaka". The guesthouse "Yanaka no Taisuke" was created in the hope of reviving and utilizing the townhouses remaining in Gujo Hachiman, as well as conveying the memories of another era.
